Come join me, Laure Ferlita, for another

“Imaginary Trip to Paris!”

This is to be the third year of heading off to Paris for five glorious weeks! All new assignments will be in the offering with a continued focus on taking the road less traveled. We will explore Paris, capturing an enchanted view in our sketchbooks as we learn a little about the City of Light.

We’ll also “create” our own story to go along with the sketches as we linger over breakfast in out-of-the-way cafes, visit beautiful parks, enjoy a café au lait in the late afternoon as we watch the golden red leaves drift to the sidewalk, glance into quiet courtyards, and observe the beauty that the French infuse into the simplest and most mundane structures of everyday life.

We’ll learn to use all of our senses rather than just our eyes. Our stories will be full of those special details that will help this be the vacation to remember long after it’s over! On this fun-filled imaginary holiday, you’ll learn how to:

  1. simplify complex scenes

  1. eliminate unnecessary details

• capture the essence of a scene in a limited amount of time

  1. test art supplies to find out what works best for you on location

  1. and best of all, you’ll “come home” with an extraordinary sketchbook full of all the wonderful places we will visit!

Class Format

The class is five weeks long with two assignments are given each week. Video demos are provided for 8 of the assignments so that you can “see” the techniques used. You have total flexibility as to when you watch the videos once they are posted. The demos are available for the duration of the class and you can watch them as many times as you wish. Some assignments will utilize Google Street Views.

Gentle critiques will be given on a secure blog with feedback provided by other “travelers” as well. Everyone will have email access for any questions or challenges that come up during our “trip.”

Students who enroll in this class should have the following:

Art Skills

Solid drawing skills including an understanding of shapes, shading,

    values and perspective

Testimonials from Students

Laure goes above expectations in presentation and effective teaching methods via video and PDF assignments. Her lessons and subjects are thoughtfully planned, varied and progressively more difficult in order to challenge us as artists.

Laure breaks down complicated subjects into easy-to-follow techniques, and it’s helped me to approach difficult situations with confidence.  Each time I watch a lesson, I can’t wait to get started on it.

She encouraged us to write about how it might feel to actually be in Paris - the sights, sounds, our feelings - as if we were really there, making it feel more like an actual trip.

Laure’s gentle feedback and evaluations are in-depth and insightful. She encourages us to keep pushing onward, taking us beyond our comfort level, but not so far that we get discouraged.  In doing so, we grow as artists.

I learned new things about myself in Laure’s classes - my strengths, my weaknesses, and goals to work toward in artistic improvement.

I definitely received my money’s worth from this class - and so much more.  Not one regret. I highly recommend Laure’s classes!

Laure, I absolutely loved your Imaginary Trip to Paris class. I came to you without a working knowledge of watercolor, and in just two short months, you turned me into a watercolorist! I’m so happy, and can’t wait until your next class. I’m first in line!

You offer so much personal instruction, and the format of posting our assignments to a private blog worked so well. I made several new friends, and I always learned something from the other students. We all seemed to help each other! Thank you for bringing your Imaginary Trips to the blogosphere!
